Mama sanity. The must haves! There are just some things a mama can't do without. I liked these things just fine before children, but now that there are two kids under 2 in the house I'm discovering that they've become essential. Their statuses have been elevated to super cool. They suddenly seem like the best inventions ever.
1. The Crock Pot. I needed therapy when purchasing my very first crock pot because I thought it was too "picket fence and apple pie" and I wondered whether my next move might be a mini van and a shirt with big yellow flowers on it. But now. But now! It does the work while you change diapers and fold clothes. Genius. Throw in a whole chicken stuffed with an onion and a lemon and leave it til it falls apart. Mmm mmm good. 2. Lysol. Not only does it kill smells, but it kills the flu too. I wear it as perfume. 3. Empty shampoo bottles. These have quickly turned into a favorite toy in the tub. They float and splash and leave very little need for fancy toys. Hope the fascination lasts. 4. Oxy Clean Laundry. The packaging doesn't lie! This is the best stain remover ever. We've removed red wine, ketchup, blueberry juice, milk, tomato sauce, dirt, and even poop stains with this stuff. The clothes turn out good as new and no one suspects they've been through such trauma. I always have two bottles around. 5. A DVR. When the toddler starts crying because she wants Barney, it can actually be at your fingertips. "No" or "not now" is still important to show that Mama has the power, but it can be a lifesaver. Just expect the DVR to be mostly full of kid shows. There will be room for a couple of CSI's and a Better off Ted. The rest comes from Sprout. An intercom system is nice too. We used to pipe the radio into each room and fill the house with Lady Gaga or Cross Canadian Ragweed, but now the only sounds that emerge from the speakers are baby cries and babbles. And so far it's pretty easy to tell which baby is beckoning. Their cries, grunts, and babbles come through the same speaker, but we're usually drawn to the right room and the right kiddo. Speaking of...there's Kallan. She napped for 3 hours. Yay! Finley is napping as well, thus the time to blog. Free time! That's another must have. Thank you God for the treadmill and internet time today. Also for the Crock Pot. |
